Fred Zimmermann

On Friday July 8, Fred (Friedrich) B. Zimmermann departed this temporal existence to an eternal life with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 6, 2022 in Wiley Funeral Home located: 400 Highway 377 E in Granbury Texas.

  

Visitation at will be at 10:00 preceding a memorial service to celebrate his life at 11:00. A private gravesite gathering will be held upon a later date.

Fred was born May 30, 1931 in Springfield, Illinois to Friedrich and Hazel Zimmermann. His father was born and raised in Germany; he immigrated to the United States in 1919 via Ellis Island.  Fred was schooled in Loami and New Berlin, Ill. He served two decades enlisted in the United States Air Force in which he traveled to all but 3 states and was assigned 19 times overseas. Upon retiring from USAF he then served 23 years as a Letter Carrier in the USPS. He was a lifetime member, with tenure as president, of the 7th Bomb Wing Association (a B-36 aircraft organization). He also holds membership in the National Association of Atomic Veterans due to assignments in nuclear bomb tests: Castle, Ivy, and Mike.  He humbly served as chairman, deacon and treasurer in a large number of churches within 9 different states. He enjoyed many years traveling in service with the Texas Baptist Men’s organization.  Fred is survived by his children, Mark and wife Tani Zimmermann, daughter Layne and husband Larry Sutton; and by his sister, Carolyn and husband Gary Sandidge.

 

In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife Myra Lou in 2020 and by his sister, Doris and husband Bud Groat.
