Francis James Gambro

Francis “Frank” James Gambro, formerly of Elgin, Lake Zurich, and Niles, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2023.  Born in Chicago on November 18, 1933, to John and May (Curry) Gambro. Frank was a proud veteran who served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  He met the love of his life as a teenager and he spent their remaining years together adoring her.  Frank worked for 35 years as a manager at Sears & Roebuck in Chicago.

Family meant everything to Frank and his favorite moments were those spent together. He was an avid White Sox and Notre Dame football fan and also enjoyed talking to his grandchildren about their interests and watching them play on various sports teams.  He will be greatly missed by both family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his brother, John, and by his beloved son, Fran Gambro.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Joan (Katzenbach) Gambro, and sons John (Beth) Gambro and Tim (Stephanie) Gambro. Grandsons Adam (Jules), Nicholas (Ashley), Derek (Michelle), Winston and Jack Gambro. Grandaughters Kate and Abby Gambro.  Great grandchildren Brooklyn, James, Emmie, Sammy, Charlie, and Francis “Frankie” Gambro III.
