Francis A. Redlinger was born April 2,1932, in Harper, Iowa, the son of Michael and Margaret (Sondag) Redlinger. He graduated from St. Elizabeth Catholic School in 1949. Francis joined the United States Army in 1953 and served in the Korean war; Francis received his honorable discharge in 1955. Francis was united in marriage to Patricia North on February 20, 1954, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ottumwa, Iowa. Francis enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and was the Iowa State Trophy Turkey Hunter in 1984, 85 and 86. Francis passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the University of Iowa Downtown Hospital and Clinics at the age of 93 years.
Francis is survived by his daughter, Julie (Scott) Stroback of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Gerry (Amanda) Redlinger of Kalona and their three children, Patricia (Cory) McBride of Independence, Megan Stroback of West Branch and Christina Stroback of Kansas City; and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Redlinger of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Patricia, son Robert Redlinger, siblings Dorothy Conrad, Winifred Weher, Margaret Striegel, Marium McArter, Bernadette Redlinger and LaVern Redlinger.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo. Fr. Scott Lemaster will be officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Marengo. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church. A general memorial fund has been established.
