Fotini Vainikos, nee Godellas, age 97, of Bensenville IL. Beloved wife of the late Nick Vainikos. Devoted mother to Helen (Stergios) Alexander, Alexandra (Chris) Carson, the late Peter Vainikos. Cherished Yiayia to Kristie Vainikos Stegen (Matthew Stegen), Michael N. Carson, Katherine F. Carson (Colin Hart), and Clair V. Carson. Adored great Yiayia to Cooper N. Stegen. Preceded in death by her brothers and sisters Nicholas, Chrysanthi (Timo), Theodore (Anthoula), and Sevasti (the late Efthimios). Loving aunt, godmother, neighbor and friend to many.

 

Fotini was truly an angel in human form. She loved her family fiercely and with her whole heart, found joy in the beauty of her perfectly tended garden, and gave her grandchildren the world’s best back rubs. Fotini was famous for her cooking, feeding everyone who entered her home the most delicious made-from-scratch meals. Along with her late husband, Nick, she was a passionate advocate for the freedom of their birthplace, including time spent as the President of the Daughters of Epirus.

 

A visitation will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 893 Church Rd, Elmhurst, IL on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 10:30am with the funeral service at 11:00am. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Diabetes Association, diabetes.org or The Glaucoma Foundation glaucomafoundation.org.
