Eunice Mae Waterman, age 96, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, with her loving family by her side.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Atkins, with Rev. Douglas Woltemath officiating. Interment will be held at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Atkins. Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 7:00 PM, Monday, January 1, 2024, at the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall.

The “Fifth Child” born to Fred and Ella Fett, Eunice grew up in Van Horne and Urbana before moving to Atkins for her high school years. It was at Atkins High School that she met the love of her life, Don Waterman. They were married on December 20, 1948 and enjoyed a long and happy marriage, recently celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary.

Following Don’s military service, the couple settled into the home Don built in Atkins and were blessed with three children – David, Lori, and Susan. Eunice was a dedicated homemaker, mother, and active member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church where she gave her time and talents to the choir and the Ladies’ Society. She was a friendly face throughout her work at Metropolitan Supply, as an Avon lady, and clerk at Atkins Savings Bank, and loved to socialize with family and friends.

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Lorenz, Gladyce Hartz, Arlene Kelley, George, Donald, Wallace Keith, and Freddie; as well as her son David. She is survived by her husband Don; daughters Lori (Dick) Trah and Susan (Dan) Voss; daughter-in-law Sherry Waterman; grandchildren Kari (Jason) Johnson, Kelly (Ben) Phelps, Lindsey (Justin) Vorthmann, Nathanael Trah, Christian Trah, Daniel (Kimberly) Voss, Brian (Nicole) Voss, and Matthew Voss; five great-granddaughters Natalie and Amy Johnson, Megan and Chloe Phelps, and soon-to-be-born Baby Girl Voss; much-loved sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank Keystone Nursing Care Center for the loving care given to Eunice for the past three years.

Memorials may be directed to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church or Central Lutheran School.
