Elizabeth Jones Freeman

Elizabeth Jones Freeman, known as “Monamen” to the family, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 2021 at the Elizabeth House surrounded by her loving family at the age of 91.

Elizabeth was a native and lifelong resident of Flat Rock.  She was born August 29, 1929 to the late Walter and Bessie Jones of East Flat Rock, NC.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 39 years, Ogilvie Freeman, Jr.  She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Herbert Jones, Hughes Jones, Luther Jones, Calvin Jones, and a sister, Minnie Lee Jones.

Elizabeth graduated from Flat Rock High School in 1947 and attended Blue Ridge Community College.  She married Ogilvie Freeman in September of 1948.  Elizabeth worked at Green River Mills, Chipman LaCrosse, Dr. Robert Vines’ office (optometrist), Atkinson Elementary School, and The Henderson County Board of Education. She was a member of the Henderson County Association of Educational Professionals, National Association of Educational Professionals, and a charter member of SIMS Users Association, receiving a North Carolina Advanced Professional Award at the state level.

Elizabeth was also an active member of Mud Creek Baptist Church in Hendersonville and was a member of the church choir for several years.

Elizabeth was one who enjoyed living life to the fullest.  She loved music, dancing, traveling, and spending time with her friends until her declining health no longer allowed it.

Left to cherish Elizabeth’s memories are her son, Ricky Freeman (Teresa) and her daughter, Debi Freeman Ward (Arthur); her grandchildren, Nathan Ward (Ashley), Heather Ward (Duane Hoover), Nick Ward (Ashley), Andrew Freeman (Jennifer), Colton Driver (Jessie); great-grandchildren, Harrison Ward, Hagan Ward, Allie Grace Hoover, Hadley Ward, Easton Ward, and Kira Driver, and special nieces, nephews, and her special “McDonald’s Friends.” Elizabeth is also survived by her special friend, Clayton Croom, of Clayton, GA, whom she “dated and loved” for the last 25 years after the death of her husband.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at Shepherd Memorial Park at 11:00AM. This will be a celebration of life honoring Elizabeth with Pastor Greg Mathis from Mud Creek Baptist Church officiating.
