Duane J. Barnes

Duane J. Barnes, 91, previously from Lake Washington, passed away at his daughter’s home on Lake Granbury, TX,, on January 29, 2022.
Duane was born June 13, 1930, in Morton, MN, to John and Verna (Meisner) Barnes. The family moved to Mankato in 1934, when Duane was 4 years old. He married Arleen Sheehan on December 17, 1949, in Honolulu, Hawaii, where Duane served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 to 1952. After being honorably discharged, Duane and Arleen moved back to Mankato and spent 64 years together.
Most of his working career involved working for the local pipefitters union and North Star Concrete.
He is survived by one of the twins, Linda (John) Friederichs; daughter Laurie (Marty) Ferguson; son-in-law Bob Amundson; grandsons David (Lindsay) Amundson, Andy Friederichs (Kate); Mitchell McGuire (Brad); granddaughter Erica Ferguson; 3 great granddaughters Sophia, Penelope Mae, and Eloise Friederichs and 1 great grandson Ben Amundson.
Duane is preceded in death by a twin daughter, Luann Amundson; wife Arleen Sheehan and granddaughter Amy Friederichs.
Duane enjoyed hunting, fishing, Western movies, bird and animal watching, country music particularly Eddy Arnold.
Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury, TX, is assisting with arrangements. Funeral and burial will be held at Fort Snelling Cemetery, St. Paul, MN, at a later date.
