Dr. John Rymer

Dr. John Rymer, 92, of Hendersonville, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Carolina Village. Dr. Rymer lived in Hendersonville, NC. He was born on October 25, 1928, in Irwin, PA. After graduating high school in 1946, Dr. Rymer attended Bob Jones University where he completed a Bachelor’s Degree and Master of Divinity Degree. He also completed graduate work for the Doctor of Ministry at Southeastern Seminary.
Dr. Rymer served several churches in Henderson County. He served as pastor at Mills River Baptist Church for five years. His thirty years at Etowah Baptist Church in Etowah, NC, reflects his love for the Gospel and for the people of God. After leaving Etowah Baptist Church, Dr. Rymer served as pastor at Shaws Creek Baptist Church. The testimony of this great ministry has left a lasting impression on the community and the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.
Dr. Rymer began teaching at Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in 1953. During his tenure as professor, Dr. Rymer taught students in Church History, English, Minor Prophets, Theology, and Old Testament. Dr. Rymer became the Academic Vice President in 1990 and served in the position until 1994. Dr. Rymer served on the Board of Directors of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina and served eight terms as moderator of the Carolina Baptist Association.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Rymer was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Velma Rymer. John and Velma were married on June 26, 1954. His relationship to Mrs. Rymer was a precious example to everyone.
A memorial service will be held at two o’clock on Thursday, October 21, 2021 in the chapel of Fruitland Baptist Bible College.
