Dovie A Alexander
- December 17, 2021
Mrs. Dovie Adlean Alexander, transitioned on December 9, 2021, after suffering from pneumonia.
Dovie was born in Guys, TN, on July 24, 1933, to Iola (Luster) & Clyde Campbell. She is the third oldest of six children. She attended the Church of Christ where her uncle was the pastor. Dovie grew up in the South and worked in the fields picking cotton. She was afraid of web worms but would kill a snake at any time.
Dovie met Fern Alexander and they married in 1959. They lived in Chagrin Falls, OH where she resided until her death. Dovie was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. Dovie enjoyed gardening and grew beets, greens, corn, and tomatoes. Every fall she would make pickled beets from the garden and pear preserves from the pear tree in her yard. Dovie also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidery, cooking, and “playing the numbers.” During the summers, she loved getting to spend a month with her grandchildren, walking to and from downtown Chagrin, taking them to the park, and feeding them whatever their hearts desired every moment of every day.
Dovie was preceded in death by her husband Fern Alexander, mother, Iola and father, Clyde, brothers Marcus (Norma Jean), Thomas (Verda Mae) and Daniel (Ruth Ann) Campbell. Survivors include one brother, Larry (Betty) Campbell of Kalamazoo, MI, one sister Mattie Campbell of Guys, TN.
Dovie is survived by her three children, Jewell of Atlanta, GA; Carmen (Nelma) of Chagrin Falls, OH, and Ronda (Reginald) of Columbus, OH, two grandchildren, Rakisha (Jamarr) and Ristina, and two great grandchildren, Amara and Jamarr, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other family members and friends who will miss her very much.
