Dorothy E. McKinley
- August 20, 2021
Dorothy E. McKinley, 98, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday morning, August 19, 2021, at Wedgewood Estates. Born October 20, 1922, in Galion, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late John Richard and Lillian Ruth (Wood) McCartney.
She enjoyed working on her IPad, solving crossword puzzles, playing cards, Bingo, golfing, and bowling and was very competitive in a good-natured way. Dorothy also enjoyed keeping her mind sharp watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She was blessed with a creative spirit that included art, coloring, calligraphy, crocheting and knitting. Dorothy’s kitchen often smelled amazing due to her love of baking cookies. Watching the birds, gardening and working in her yard kept her busy for many hours. She was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, enjoyed Jack and Jill Sundays at Dairy Queen and her favorite color was purple. She was bitten by the travel bug and was interested in finding new places to visit. Dorothy’s family and friends were her top priority and she will be dearly missed.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Denise (David) Carlton and Darlene (Jay) Yamada; three grandchildren, Ryan (Mapuana) Egami, Matthew (Uakea) Egami and Michelle (Carlos) Silva; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Silva, Logan Silva, Cade Egami and Naia Egami; and close family friends, Al and Marsha Sigg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dale McKinley; and two sisters, Norma Nadason and Gladys Leathers.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. She will be laid to rest in Lantz Cemetery beside her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Wedgewood Estates for the excellent care that Dorothy received for the last several years.
