Dorothy “Dottie” I. Mullin

Dorothy “Dottie” I. Mullin, of Hendersonville, NC, passed in peace, surrounded by family, on July 5, 2022 at the age of 96.

She was born January 13, 1926 in Big Springs, NE to Austin and Buena E. Cummins.  Dottie graduated from Big Springs Rural High School in 1943.  From a young age, Dottie was interested in drawing and painting, was even art director for her high school yearbook and was offered a scholarship to an art school in Chicago.  Dottie married Francis A. Mullin July 4, 1945.  She proudly worked at Tonopah Nevada Air Force Base as an inventory inspector during WWII at the young age of 17.  She then worked at Hickok Manufacturing Company in western NY as a seat belt inspector and spent over 20 years working as a physical therapy aide at Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady, NY.

One of Dottie’s passions was playing Scrabble and Chinese Checkers with family and friends, especially with her Bailey’s.  She also enjoyed sitting on her porch, enjoying the wildlife, family time at the beach, sewing crafts, antiquing, and listening to music.

Dottie is survived by daughters, Julia (Don Caseria) Swan, Patricia (Tom) Kochie, Maureen (Joanne Newbold) Mullin; grandchildren, Chanda (Alex) Hall, Brian Kochie, Amanda (Elizabeth) Carris-Swan, Courtney (Mason) Swan-Leverington; great-grandchildren, Skye Hall, Layla Hall, Leo Leverington; sisters, Janice (Robert) Krause and Corrine (Gary) Johnson

She is preceded in death by her former husband, Francis A. Mullin; sister, Alice (Frank) Clements; and stepmother, LaVeda Cummins.

Dottie will be greatly missed by many family and friends who hold her dearly in their hearts.

A celebration of life at Dellwood Apartments in Hendersonville, NC will be announced at a later date.
