- January 25, 2022
Dorothy “Dot” Jean Toney, 91, of Hendersonville, passed away on January 22, 2022. She was born in Jackson County, NC to the late Ambrose and Della B. Fortner and was a lifelong resident of Henderson County.
Dot graduated from Flat Rock High School in 1949 and in addition to her work at the Tick Tock Restaurant, North Western Bank, and JC Penney of Hendersonville, her greatest work was that of a wife and a mother. She loved her family incredibly and spent much of her time with her children, in her kitchen cooking meals for her family, and tending to her garden. Her compassion for others and the sweet way she cared for friends and family is a legacy that will surely live on in the lives of those who knew her.
Dot is survived by her children: Wanda Gayle Shipman (Paul) of Saluda, Roger Toney of Hendersonville, and Neal Toney (Camilla) of Muscle Shoals, AL; her grandchildren: Stephanie Massey (Dale), Kim Gould (Chris), Justin Toney, Nathan Patterson (Brittany), Shawn Toney, Aaron Toney, Noah Toney, Katy Beth Toney, and Toney MacArthur; her great-grandchildren: Troy Jackson, Kristina Jackson, Cameron Massey, Kayla Whitaker, and Carter Garren; and her sister, Earlene Cook.
Dot is predeceased by her first husband, William D. Toney; her significant other, Gary Wade; her son, Dan Dudley Toney; and her sister, Norma Kratz.
A funeral service will be held at the Chapel at Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Saturday January 29th at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 1:45pm, and a committal will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
