Doris J. Noel, 93, of Marion, formerly of Hopkinton, Iowa, passed away June 23, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Visitation will be held from 9:15 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, June 29, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Hopkinton, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial commences at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 29, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Hopkinton, Iowa, with burial in Hopkinton Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Baldwin will officiate.
Doris was born on March 14, 1930, in Racine, Wis., the daughter of Harry and Amy (Bolton) Gibson. The family later relocated to Cedar Rapids. As a young girl, Doris enjoyed roller skating, bike riding and dancing. She was a people person and was a pro at the art of communication, which was reflected in her ability to form lasting friendships. Doris graduated from Immaculate Conception High School and many of her classmates remained lifelong friends.
She married Marcus Supple on Sept. 8, 1951, in Cedar Rapids, and they both felt it was the happiest time of their life, raising six great children. She took great joy in following Marcus’ ball games. Dancing was one of their favorite dates, going to the Armar Ballroom where all the top bands were playing. This love of music was passed on to their son Casey. Marcus and Doris were devoted to their children, giving them love and encouragement, teaching them to give their very best whether in academics, sports or socially. Marcus passed away in 1991. Several years later, Doris met and later married Lee Noel. He was a much-loved member of our family for 15 years.
Doris lived a life of kindness, grace and acceptance. She loved to laugh, have a good time and enjoy a gin and tonic with two limes! What she lacked in height, she more than made up for in spirit and spunk. She loved fiercely, laughed frequently and spread joy with her smile. Her integrity, perseverance, optimism and acceptance lasted throughout her life. Those who knew her well would describe her as a very positive, fun-loving lady. She loved to dance and appreciated all genres of music.
Survivors include her children, Chris Richter of Marion, Carrie Supple of Marion, Mark Supple of Marion and Tricia (Jim) Manson of Earlville; daughter-in-law, Kris Supple of Hopkinton; grandchildren, Jessi, Katie, Hayley, Hannah, Heidi, Lee, Jerad, Aaron, Marcus, Adrianne, Erika, Emilee, Brittney, Allison and Carly; 12 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; a brother, Fred (Joey) Gibson; in-laws, Roman Welter and Maude Gibson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Marcus, in 1991; and Lee Noel; her sons, Casey and Scott Supple; siblings, Harry Gibson, Robert Gibson, Ellen Trosky and Irene Richards; and in-laws, Rosemary Welter and Jim Supple.
She will be remembered for the lifelong gifts she leaves for all, faith in God, love, kindness, honesty, integrity and a fun, joyful spirit. Doris leaves this world having lived a good life surrounded by the love of family and numerous friends. She valued and enjoyed each and every person she connected with.
