Donna Johnson, a dedicated wife, a beloved mother, and nana, passed away on April 11, 2024, at the age of 79, after a courageous 2-month battle with a short illness.

Donna was born on April 13, 1944, in Thornburg, Iowa, to Wilma and Loren Bowen, and grew up to become a shining example of resilience, strength, and kindness.

She is survived by her daughters, Renee and husband Shawn Schuldt, Tracey and husband Chris Durham; grandchildren, Gabrielle and Carson Schuldt; sisters, Doris and husband Warren Holst, and Mary Ann Untiedt; sisters-in-law, Gerry Statler and JoAnne Tangen; and brother-in-law, Wayne Johnson.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Butch Johnson; parents, Wilma and Loren Bowen; sister, Alice Bowen; in-laws, Spike and Ethel Johnson; brothers-in-law, Craig Untiedt, John Tangen and Peter Statler; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Johnson.

Donna’s life was defined by her unwavering dedication to her family, grandchildren, and friends. She spent almost 40 years as a shipping coordinator at Quaker Oats, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of those around here. Donna was a natural at her job, always put others first, and her kindness and compassion were felt by everyone she met.

During her illness, Donna continued to show up with a smile on her face and was determined to change the course of her life. She faced it head-on, never losing hope or her positive spirit. Donna’s bravery was an inspiration to all who knew her, and selfless commitment to her family, even during her rough patch, is a testament to the power of the human spirit.

Donna was also a devoted mother to her two children, Renee and Tracey, and a beloved Nana to Carson and Gabrielle, and the coolest mother-in-law, to whom she called her only sons, Shawn and Chris. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family, whether it was shopping with her girls, baking with her grandkids at Christmas, or hanging out with the boys, Donna’s kindness, warmth, and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew her, especially her family.

Donna’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and service. She touched the lives of countless people during her lifetime, and her impact will continue to be felt for years to come. Donna’s family and friends take comfort in knowing that her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched and the example of courage and kindness she set for us all.

A memorial service will be held on June 29, 2024, at the Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids at 9:30 a.m. A livestream of the service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Donna, under “photos and videos,” starting at 9:30 a.m. on June 29.
