Donald J. Kinsel
Donald J. Kinsel, 93, of Sherman, formerly of Springfield, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at The Villas Senior Care – East. He was born October 11, 1929 in Springfield, to J. Joseph and Ruth I. Cantrall Kinsel. He married Maureen C. Doerfler in November of 1952, and she preceded him in death on July 22, 1999.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two siblings, Janice Kinsel and Martin E. Kinsel.
Donald is survived by his son, William J. (Norma) Kinsel of Springfield; two granddaughters, Courtney L. (Scott) Norris of Springfield and Kimberly A. (Michael) Petersen of Round Rock, TX; seven great-grandchildren, Andrew W. Kinsel, McKenna Norris, Macie Norris, Colton Norris, Anjali Petersen, Jonah Petersen, and Lilliana Petersen; brother, David E. (Karren) Kinsel of Punta Gorda, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Donald was a lifelong resident of Springfield and was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. He was a graduate of the University of IL and was a United States Air Force veteran serving from 1949 – 1953. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #364. He loved the arts and had a large library of classical music.
Donald worked as a Personnel Executive for the State of IL for 31 years, retiring in 1990.
Private family services will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery, with Rev. George Nellikunnel officiating and military honors will be conducted.
