Donald E. Poggi

Donald E. Poggi, 85, passed away on January 11, 2022 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. He was born April 22, 1936 in Mason City, Illinois to parents Silvio and Geraldine Poggi. His family moved to Pottstown (a suburb of Peoria) where he spent most of his childhood years. He joined the U.S. Navy in April, 1954 where he served on U.S.S. Everglades. He married Sheryl Sandage on Dec. 30, 1975. He and his wife traveled extensively and enjoyed going on cruises and spending winters in Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, both parents; son, Michael Poggi; grandson, Michael Coffey.

He is survived by his children, Barb (Danny) Coffey of Petersburg; Mark Poggi, Rick Poggi, Daniel (Tracy) Poggi, all of Springfield; Molly (Orlando) Medina of Copperas Cove, TX; daughter-in-law, Mary Poggi of Springfield. sister, JoAnn Hanlon of Peoria; grandchildren; April Poggi, Jennifer Lott, Brett Coffey, Timothy Phillips, Sarah Ruzicka, Hunter Poggi, Hannah Poggi, Allie Poggi, Brandon Patterson; 3 nieces and 9 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery, in Springfield, Illinois.
