Donald Charles Kaplan, 90, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022. Celebration of Life services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St., SW. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Brosh Chapel.

Donald was born Feb. 16, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Ida (Scharf) Kaplan. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Wilson High School. Don served in the U.S. Marines. He was united in marriage to Shirley Powers on Sept. 20, 1987, at Trinity Lutheran Church. He owned and operated Kaplan Builders, specializing in custom carpentry. He enjoyed gardening, tinkering with small projects and western movies.

Don is survived by his wife, Shirley; his niece, Karen (Brad) Shultz; his nephew, Scott Ramsay; and Shirley’s children, Vern Hersom, Debra Hersom and Susan Hersom.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his twin sister, Donna Mae (Larry) Ramsay.
