Dennis Lee Pettit, 68, of Cedar Rapids, joined his Savior in Heaven Saturday, March 2, 2024. Friends may visit with the family Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 3:00-6:00 PM at New Covenant Bible Church and at 10:00 AM on Monday. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 18, 2024, at New Covenant Bible Church. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
Dennis was born July 14, 1955, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Clair and Margaret (Dimmitt) Pettit. He graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1973 and later earned a degree in General Computer Systems. Dennis married Susan Jane Caves on August 2, 1975, at North Court Baptist Church in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was a member of New Covenant Bible Church for 45 years, where he acted as Children’s Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and led home Bible studies. Dennis displayed his love for God in the way he served his church and family his entire life.
Dennis was always ready with a joke and had a laugh that made everyone around him join in. He was a devoted father who cheered on his kids in their endeavors and volunteered for many of their school events. He enjoyed reading, tennis, pickleball, golf, bike riding, music, and attending sporting events. He cherished his friends and looked forward to a good conversation over breakfast with them.
Left to cherish Dennis’ memory are the love of his life and wife of 48 years, Susan, his son Daniel Pettit, his daughters Stephanie (Dustin) Coy, and Stacey (Michael) Wilke; eight grandkids, Alec Knepper, Reece Knepper, Adelyn Pettit, Ellison Pettit, and their mother Rachael Pettit, Kipton Coy, Ashlyn Coy, Karleigh Coy, and Kaylee Sue Wilke; his sister Debbie (David) Truitt; mother-in-law Miriam Caves, brother-in-law Steven (Suzanne) Caves and their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law Donald Caves.
Memorials may be directed to the family and donations will be made in Dennis’ honor.
