Dennis Darwin Owens, 84 of Cedar Rapids, died after a long illness from dementia on Friday, August 16, 2024. Services: 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Teahen Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 1 p.m. until the start of the service. Burial: Palo Cemetery.
Dennis is survived by two sons, Boyd (Jennifer) Owens of Hammond, WI and Brian Owens of Prairie Du Chien, WI; daughter Kimberly (Larry) Musil of Cedar Rapids; sister Cheryl (Larry) Radeke of Vinton and seven grandchildren Jenna and Tyler both of Hammond, WI, Brandon of Kansas City, KS, Khatelyn of Waukesha, WI, Madison of Milton, WI, Carson and Colton both of Cedar Rapids, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents D. Boyd and Dorothy Owens.
Dennis was born on July 7, 1940, in Cedar Rapids the son of D. Boyd and Dorothy Baxter Owens. Dennis farmed cattle, hogs and crops with his father on their family farm. He was also a rural mail carrier for the Palo, Iowa Post Office and worked at Quaker Oats for 27 years in the maintenance department. Dennis also served in the US Army reserves for 27 years and was a long-term blood donor for the American Red Cross.
Dennis loved spending time with his family, especially on their family vacations. He enjoyed cars, motorcycling, farming and he appreciated the joys of nature.
