Dennie Charles Holverson, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, after a short battle with a Covid-induced respiratory illness. He was 94.

Dennie was born to Holver “Holly” and Ruby Mau Holverson on February 28, 1929, in Britt, Iowa. At Britt High School he played football and basketball, graduating in 1947. He worked as a relief agent on the Milwaukee Railroad before enlisting and serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Germany with the occupied forces. After the war, Dennie enrolled at the University of Iowa, where he met Camilla Kelly, and married her on June 18, 1955. Dennie, Cam, and their children lived in Chicago, IL, Jacksonville, FL, Marion and De Witt, IA before finally settling in Cedar Rapids in 1967. He worked in sales for Fuller Brush, Rust-Oleum and D.C. Taylor before starting his own business, Cedar Service Company, in 1972. Dennie was well-known for his love of tailgating at Iowa football games, fishing, lawn work and visiting old, forgotten cemeteries. He also loved his hometown of Britt and would return annually for Hobo Day Festival.

Dennie is survived by his wife, Camilla, sons Mike & Dave, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol, and half-sister Hazel. He was a member of VFW Post #788 and Elks Lodge 251. A Celebration of Life for friends and family will be held from 1:00-4:00 pm April 27, 2024, at the Ellis Golf Course Club House in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
