David Cray Thomas

David Cray Thomas, 63, of Riverton, died at 3:00 pm, Monday, March 22, 2021. He was born June 19, 1957, to Cray M. and Virginia E. (Bottoms) Thomas. He married Catherine Vlahon on July 7, 1995 and she survives.

Also surviving are one son, Hunter Thomas; sister, Elaine (Mike) DiGiovanna; niece, Sarah Trinh and his beloved cat, “Boo”.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1st wife Dawn (Hixon) Thomas.

David was employed by Horace Mann as a Data Base Administrator for 40 years and was currently employed by Caterpillar as a Data Architect.

Flying was his passion, becoming a pilot at the age of 16, and was a long-time member of the Springfield Flying 20’s Club.

David graduated from the University of Illinois, Springfield, as the Grand Marshall of his program in Sociology with a Master’s Degree.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Springfield for 50 years.

His pride and joy was his son, Hunter.

Graveside Service: 10:00 am, Friday, March 26, 2021 at Oak Ridge Cemetery, with Reverend Michael Koschmann officiating.
