Darold Lee Harless

Darold Lee Harless, 82, of Mansfield, Ohio, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, February 14, 2021, after an extended illness and complications from COVID-19 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. He was born January 3, 1939, in Cabell County, West Virginia, to the late Enos Harless and Pansy Vickers Harless.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Loretta (Pratt) Harless; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Jim Canfield of Mansfield, Ohio; son, Scott Harless and friend Patrick Worley of Columbus, Ohio; and son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Jennifer Harless of Mooresville, Indiana; grandchildren, Zack (Kelly) Canfield of Mansfield, Ohio, Alex (Alex) Hickinbotham of Mansfield, Ohio, Chloe, Emma, and Ethan Harless of Mooresville, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Landon and Jillian Canfield, and Zara and Luca Hickinbotham; brother, Leon (Phyllis) Harless and sister-in-law, Shelby Harless, all of Huntington, West Virginia.

Darold and Loretta came to Mansfield in 1960 and spent their life together there. Darold was a deacon and faithful member of the Dean Road Free Will Baptist Church. Retiring after a successful thirty-four and one-half years with AK Steel, Darold became a gentleman farmer raising beef cattle and farming hay on their small farm near Lucas.

Darold’s love of coon and turkey hunting with his brothers, family, and friends provided him many years of enjoyment. He also loved to play dominoes, especially with his family when they would spend time together during the holidays, or whenever there was a game to be played. Perhaps one of his favorite challengers was his next-door-neighbor, Jim.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Gary (Gay), Verlin, Edsel (Bill), Edmond (Buddy), Earl, and Carmie Harless (who passed-away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at age 90); and brother-in-law, Carl Pratt.

Donations in memory of Darold can be made to the Dean Road Free Will Baptist Church c/o Earl Tackett, 1058 Benedict Avenue, Mansfield, Ohio 44906, or the OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital Infusion Clinic (Cancer Care) c/o Patti Kastelic, 335 Glessner Avenue, Mansfield, Ohio 44903.

The family would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Robert Exten and his office staff, Dr. Uchenna Ezike, Cancer Care, OhioHealth Hospice, and the many doctors, nurses, and staff of OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital who so selflessly cared for Darold.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm Friday, February 19, 2021, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street. A service will follow at 1:00 pm officiated by Rev. Clifford Earl Tackett and Pastor Monty Perry. He will be laid to rest in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Lucas, Ohio.

Masks will be mandatory and social distancing will be observed in accordance with state COVID-19 guidelines.
