Darnell Reid

Darnell Reid, 60, of Zirconia, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Care Partners Solace Center in Asheville.  She was born in Henderson County to the late Grady and Molly Merrell.  She was also preceded in death by her brother Francis Merrell and her brother-in-law Wade Nelon.

Darnell received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Blue Ridge Community College and was a Registered Nurse at Pardee Hospital for 24 years.  She was a member of East Flat Rock First Baptist Church for 40 years and she loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, dogs, and hiking.

She is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, Ken Reid; daughter Amanda Reid and her husband Jonathan Higginbotham of East Flat Rock; son Caleb Reid and his wife Kelsey Francis Reid of Hendersonville, NC; grandchildren, Cora Reid and Reid Higginbotham; sister Vickie Nelon; and brother Grady (GB) Merrell and wife Kathy.

A funeral service will be held at eleven o’clock on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at East Flat Rock First Baptist Church with the Reverend Brent Thomas officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Graveside services will follow the funeral at Cedar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Zirconia, NC.
