Cynthia Fae Buck, age 88 of Clarence, Iowa, passed away Tuesday April 16, 2024 surrounded by her children at the Clarence Nursing Home.

A memorial service will be held at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clarence with Janet Shotwell officiating on Friday April 26 at 2:30 PM. Visitation will occur at the church starting at 1:00 PM and continue until the service begins. Inurnment will be in the Lowden Cemetery.

Cindy was born March 24, 1936 in Moorhead, Minnesota to Orris and Olive (Askegaard) Olsgaard. She married Kenneth Dircks in 1956 to which her three children were born. She was married to Roland Buck in December 1982 and he passed away in 2018.

Survivors include her children Barry (Suzy) Dircks of Solon, Pamela DesChatelets of Joliet, IL, and Susan (Rick) Klatt of Coralville; grandchildren Stacey (Justin) Hunter, Ryan Klatt, Megan Klatt, and Kelsey Dircks; and great grandchildren Emersyn and Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Roland; granddaughter Erin; and sister Sharon Engle.

Cindy was an elementary school teacher in the Clarence, Clarence-Lowden, and North Cedar school districts for 32 years before retiring.

She was an active member of the St. John’s congregation, participating in the church choir, the bell choir, and in Lend-a-Hand.

Cindy cherished spending time with her family and was a regular attendee of her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s many activities.

As an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, she watched and attended many UI athletic events. Cindy loved reading, playing cards with family and friends, participating in golf and bowling leagues, gardening, shopping, and traveling.
