Cheryl Lynn Carlson, formerly of Newhall, IA, died on November 18, 2023 following a lengthy illness. She was born on November 25, 1945 to Harold and Marjorie Weichman Carlson and attended Newhall High School where she graduated in the Class of 1963. She was a member of the Newhall High School marching band and served as drum majorette. After high school Cheryl moved to the Twin Cities and served as a flight attendant for Northwest Orient Airlines, as the airline was known in the 1960s. This was during a time when commercial air travel was still considered glamorous, and three-course meals were served in economy class. Men dressed in suits and ties, and women donned their finest dresses and lovely hats for air travel. Cheryl eventually flew international routes and enjoyed this opportunity to see the world. After her time as a flight attendant, she relocated to California where she established a successful career in real estate. She was also an enthusiastic supporter of the arts in Orange County, CA, including the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, the Pacific Symphony, and the Pacific Chorale. At the time of her death, she was residing in Costa Mesa, CA.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Gladys Weichman Carlson, grandparents, and her friend David Morris. Many cousins, friends, and neighbors are left to celebrate and honor Cheryl’s memory and mourn her passing. Private graveside services will be held later this summer at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton, IA.
