Charlie “Chuck” Blount, 47, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Belle Plaine, died Thursday, June 8, 2023, of a sudden illness. Celebration of Life from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at Belle Plaine Community Center, 1309 Fifth Ave., Belle Plaine, IA 52208.

Charlie was born Feb. 13, 1976. His first job at Idaho Falls Newspaper. Charlie spent the past several years as a popular food writer for the San Antonio Express-News where he wrote columns, recorded podcasts and filmed videos on BBQ. Prior to that, he held the job of designing pages for the paper’s sports section. Charlie was also known for his “Porkfest” BBQs. If you ever met Charlie you knew you had a friend for life. He will be sorely missed.

He is survived by wife, Debbie Erwin; daughter, Isabelle Victoria Blount; sister, Dr. Jennifer Blount (Shawn Gordon); mother, Victoria Blount; father, Rod Blount; mother-in-law, Betty Erwin; nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous sibling-in-laws.

He was preceded in death by uncles, Jody Chekal and Bill Vileta; and aunt, Lorie Chekal.
