Charles E. Ratliff

Charles E. Ratliff, 85, of Springfield, formerly of Petersburg, died at Memorial Medical Center on Saturday, February 13, 2021. He was born in Athens on June 1, 1935 to Robert and Bertha Jane Craig Ratliff. He married Malinda “Linda” Wiemers on December 20, 1958.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight of his brothers and sisters, Garland Ratliff, Lucille Holler, Vernon Ratliff, Helen Peters, Ella Losey, Joyce Ratliff, Patricia Robertson and Greg Ratliff.

He is survived by his wife, Linda of Springfield; daughter, Angela Ratliff Jones (Robert Jones) of Nixa, MO; son, Phillip Ratliff (Theresa Adams) of Springfield; grandchildren, Ashley Jones Polan, Matthew Jones and Eric Jones; brother, Merle Ratliff of Easton; two sisters, Barbara Fink of Pekin and Kathy Garrett of Springfield and many nieces and nephews.

Charlie served in the US Army active duty from 1958-1960, as well as six years inactive duty. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Petersburg. He operated and owned several full service stations in Springfield and gave many young men their first job. He offered credit to many entrepreneurs who were starting their businesses. After closing his station on 1st and Ash, he worked at Doctors Hospital and Dickey John until retirement.

Charlie enjoyed working on cars, going to car shows and watching car races. He especially enjoyed helping other people and spending time with his family and friends, including his mischievous coffee buddies. He was beloved by all who knew him.

Private family services will be held at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield, followed by burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or another charity of your choice.
