Carol Marie Schoulte, 84 of Monona, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 27, 2023, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa. Carol was born on Dec. 21, 1938, to John W. and Evelyn C. (Moses) Reardon at their home in Ossian, Iowa.

Carol attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Elkader, Iowa, where they lived at the time. The family then moved to Monona, Iowa, where Carol attended St Patrick’s school until attending high school at MF. Carol played on the high school basketball team. The basketball team went to the state tournament. Carol was also a drum majorette. Carol graduated in 1956.

On June 8, 1957, Carol was united in marriage with Francis Casper Schoulte at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa. They began their married life farming on the family farm near National, Iowa. Five children were born into this union: Christopher, Cathy, Sally, Timothy and Rick. Carol especially enjoyed mushroom hunting, being on their family farm and family picnics by the pond. Carol was a DRE and CCD teacher at St. Mary Catholic Church in McGregor, Iowa, for many years.

Surviving Carol are her children, Christopher (Linda) Schoulte, Cathy Werger, Sally Berns (Larry Davis), Timothy (Leigh) Schoulte and Rick (Sara) Schoulte; grandchildren, Joshua Schoulte, Joleen Sussman, Alex Werger, Ali Werger, Jared Werger, Nathan Berns, Spencer Berns, Kasey Adams, Destiny Berns, Brant Schoulte, Saysha Schoulte, Dustin Hamilton, Kassie Hamilton, Dalton Schoulte and Mason Schoulte; and many great-grandchildren.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Schoulte; her parents, John and Evelyn Reardon; her brother, Thomas Reardon; grandsons, Ryan Schoulte, Jeff Werger and Thomas Schoulte; and sons-in-law, Al Werger and Bob Berns.

A visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Monona, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before Mass at the church on Monday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, at St. Mary Catholic Church in McGregor, Iowa.

Interment will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in McGregor, Iowa.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Monona, Iowa, is assisting the family with arrangements.
