Byron “Buz” E. Nichols

Byron “Buz” E. Nichols, 76, of Springfield, formerly of Divernon, passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born December 19, 1944, in Springfield, the son of Byron M. and Eva Virginia O’Connell Nichols and they preceded him in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Nicki (Scott) Volpe of Pella, IA; one granddaughter, Cassandra Volpe; one brother, Gary (Marcia) Nichols of Springfield; two sisters, Bonita “Bonnie” Klein of Divernon and Sandy (Ron) Bloome of Portland, OR; two nieces, Dawn Marie Benton of Oregon and Pam Adamcik of Texas; three nephews, Mark (Lisa) Klein of Pawnee and Nick (Kerri) and Andy (Dana) Casper, both of Georgia; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his four legged nephew, Augie.
Buz was a diehard U of I basketball fan and loved cheering on the LA Dodgers. He was very social, especially towards his family and friends. During the winter season, Buz enjoyed spending time in Vegas with Gary and Marcia. He had the biggest heart of all and the love he shared will continue through all who knew him. He was proud to be able to participate with Gift of Hope organ donation.
Buz worked at Fiat Allis as a union electrician for many years and served on its executive committee until it closed. He retired from the Illinois State Museum as a guard.
The family would like to thank the team at Memorial Medical Center 6C, especially Dr. Christopher Lawrence, Dr. Muhammad Khan and Dr. Rakshit Shetty for their exceptional care of Buz until he met the end of his road.
Memorial Gathering: 10 – 11 am, Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Memorial Service: 11 am, Saturday, July 3, 2021 at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Medical Center Foundation.
