Burrill E. Rader

Burrill E. Rader

Burrill Eugene Rader, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all, passed away from Covid complications, though being vaccinated, on Tuesday, July 6th, 2021 near his new home in Yorkville, IL.

Born February 8, 1930, in Trenton, Missouri, to Nelle and Ralph Rader, Burrill lived a life full of family, friends, and good times. His biggest passions were his wine, cats, cars, and jazz. He was the life of every party, never met a stranger, and his sense of fashion was only matched by his sense of humor.

Out of all of Burrill’s accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. On June 30, 1951, Burrill married the love of his life, Rose Amelia Rowan, and lived to see his 70th wedding anniversary last month. He and Rose welcomed Michael Eugene Rader on November 10, 1954, and Kent Allen Rader on April 30, 1959. Burrill enjoyed teaching his sons to water ski while vacationing at Lake of the Ozarks, he put up with pranks from his brothers-in-law, and went to every party that he was invited to.

He graduated from Richmond High School in 1948 and attended Culver-Stockton College and Central Missouri State. In December 1951, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp and served 3 years during the Korean War. In 1955, Burrill opened Rader’s Men’s and Boy’s Wear store with his father, and then opened Rader’s Fireside Fashions in 1969 with his wife, keeping Richmond looking dapper for 35 years. Later, he served Wentworth Military Academy as Quartermaster for six years, and then drove “old people around” for 12 years with Direct Transportation. After calling Richmond home for over 65 years, Rose and Burrill moved to Yorkville, Illinois, in October of 2020, though Burrill did wonder why the Chicago news didn’t cover the Kansas City Chiefs.

Burrill will be forever missed by his surviving family, wife Rose, sons Michael (Ruth) Rader of Yorkville, IL and Kent (Twyla) Rader of Cincinnati, OH, grandson Keith (Kate Stark) of Cincinnati, OH, granddaughters Maggie (Justin McCombs) of Cincinnati, OH and Amelia (Kurt Mayle) of Warrenville, IL, great-grandson Kai Rader of Cincinnati, OH, brother-in-law Calvin (Connie Nickell) Rowan of Rayville, sisters-in-law Maryann Rowan of Rayville, and Sue Rowan of Florida, and multiple nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelle and Ralph Rader, Aunt Mable (Mamie) Burrill, father- and mother-in-law Ray and Zella Rowan, as well as 3 brothers-in-law and 2 sisters-in-law.

Services will be held at a later date, but in the meantime, we ask that you honor Burrill by telling funny stories to good friends and family while toasting with a glass of red wine. You can also honor Burrill’s memory by getting your Covid vaccine. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Burrill’s honor to Toys for Tots, run by the Marine Corp, The Richmond United Christian Presbyterian Church, or Children’s Mercy Hospital (2401 Gillham Rd., Kansas City, MO 64108).
