Beryl J. McKanna

Beryl J. McKanna, 94, entered eternal rest on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Symphony Tillers Nursing Home, Oswego, IL. She was born June 27, 1928. She was the oldest of seven children given to Joseph and Helen Severson.

She is survived by her one daughter, Diane (David) Oram of Silver City, NM; two sons, Mark (Joann) McKanna of Amboy, IL and Mikel (Sally) McKanna of Metamora, IL; 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Gerald W. McKanna, her parents Joseph and Jerry Severson, 2 sisters-in-law, Lorraine Severson & Marie Severson.

Beryl spent most of her life in Kendall County graduating from Plano High School in 1945. She married Gerald W. McKanna on June 29, 1946, at what is now known as Silver Springs State Fish and Wildlife Area.

She was a farm wife, mother, homemaker and also enjoyed her career outside the home. She was the bookkeeper for Lisbon and Newark School Districts and Newark-Millington Cemetery treasurer. She was active and a leader in many organizations including Women’s Club, Farm Bureau, and Helmar Lutheran Church. She was known for her love of decorating and enjoyed maintaining her beautiful flower gardens.

Altho Midwest winters found Beryl traveling to Florida, she truly enjoyed their “glam-camping” at Woodhaven Lakes, where they made wonder memories. Beryl will always by remembered for her love of Family and Friends, but most of all for the love of her Lord and Savior. Her faith was strong and an encouragement and testimony to all she knew and met.
