Bernice McMurray Rhodes

Bernice McMurray Rhodes, 88, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021.

A native of Henderson County, Bernice was born on June 19, 1932 to the late Carvie M. McMurray and the late Batus Talley McMurray.  Bernice is also preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, O.D. Rhodes; sons, Stephen and Darren Rhodes; brothers, T.C., Devaughn, and Edward and sisters, Leota and Anita.

Bernice attended The University of North Carolina Asheville where she received her bachelor’s degree in education.  She spent most of her career devoted to teaching. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

Bernice is survived by her children, Lynda Rhodes Garren (Robert) of Hendersonville, NC, and Stephen Rhodes (Kelly); granddaughter, Heather Westin (Devon); great-grandchildren, Sophie Troy and Jake Robinson, and brothers, Glover, Grover, and Floyd McMurray. Bernice is also survived by numerous other family members.

A memorial service will be held at Liberty Baptist Church on Saturday, May 8, 2021  at 2:00 PM with Rev. Robert Garren officiating. A private graveside service will occur at a later date at Ebenezer Church Cemetery.
