Barbara Stary, 66, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 22, 2023. She was a wonderful friend and sister, with an infectious laughter, and a passion for the outdoors.

A visitation will be held, prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m., and the Celebration of Life will begin at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories: 4200 First Ave. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Cemetery.

Barbara was born on Sept. 14, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is the daughter of William and Miriam Lodge. Barbara graduated from Jefferson High School. She took advanced courses, was a member of the National Honor Society, ran track and cross country, and played basketball. She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Iowa State University, where she ran cross-country and track, and was a letter winner. Barbara went on to work for Quintrex Data Systems and General Dynamics. She was active in her neighborhood association and devoted many hours researching ways to protect nature’s beauty, especially pollinator plants and wildlife.

Barbara married Bradley Stary on May 7, 1988. They lived in Long Beach, Calif. Barbara and

Bradley enjoyed many activities at the Pacific Ocean and loved to travel. Barbara enjoyed running, biking, and kayaking. She loved the beauty of nature and spoke with the eagles during her daily biking or running routine. She also enjoyed attending concerts and finding new restaurants for a meal.

Barbara is survived by her sister, Melody Lodge.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Bradley Stary; parents, Miriam and William Lodge, and grandparents.

Memorials can be made to Indian Creek Nature Center.
