Barbara Doerfler

On Sunday, May 8, 2022, we lost our beloved mother and grandmother. Barbara Doerfler, 88, of Springfield, passed away at Hickory Point Christian Village in Forsyth. She was born June 8, 1933, in Springfield, the daughter of George and Ann (Power) Chapman. She married George W. Doerfler in 1955 and he preceded her in death on September 30, 2019.

Also preceding her in death are her parents; four brothers, Martin, Ray, Maurice, and John Chapman; and two sisters, Doris Kelly and Margaret Chapman.

Survivors include three sons, Dan (Joan) Doerfler of Forsyth, Ron Doerfler of Schaumburg and Brian (Melinda) Doerfler of Brimfield; six grandchildren, Jeff (Ally) Doerfler, Kristen (Matt) Rosenthal, Craig (Brooke) Doerfler, Derek Doerfler, Matt (Anna) Doerfler, and Lauren Doerfler; five great-grandchildren, Keeley, Kelsey, Brady, Leah, and Emma; sister, Ellen (Gary) White of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Barbara was a resident of Springfield all her life. She belonged to St. Agnes Catholic Church. She was an active member of the Red Hat Society. Some of Barbara’s greatest joys were sewing, reading and gardening.  Barbara’s family was very dear to her and she loved spending her time with them.

Barbara was a homemaker and worked at Horace Mann for many years, and later retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue.

Graveside Service: 11 am, Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Reverend Daniel Bergbower officiating.
