Arlene Deitrick

Arlene Deitrick, age 98, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, December 23, 2020, while in the Hennis Care Center at Dover.

Born in Dover, Ohio on March 25, 1922, Arlene was a daughter of the late Fremont Cletis and Alta Minerva Long Burris.

Arlene was a 1940 graduate of Dover High School and on June 22, 1956, she married Paul Robert Deitrick. Together the couple had two children and shared in 29 year of marriage prior to Paul’s passing in January of 1986.

Professionally, Arlene was employed by Marlite for 19 years in the Accounting Department. She later became a Nurse’s Aid and worked in the Pediatrics Department of Union Hospital for 16 years prior to her retirement at age 73.

Arlene was a member of the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia, the Union Hospital Retirees and the Tuscarawas County AARP. In her free time, Arlene enjoyed volunteering for Mobile Meals, helping at The Little Theatre, and spending time with the singles group at the United Methodist Church. The holiday season was especially important as she truly enjoyed baking cookies for the holidays. Arlene also loved playing Bingo at Hennis.

She is survived by her children, John (Kathy) Deitrick of Dover and Jane Deitrick of New Philadelphia and two granddaughters, Kimberly (Amanda) Nagy and Stacie (Shane) Jones. Completing the family are a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Burris and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Arlene was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Horn and two brothers, Wayne Burris and Jerry Burris.

Cremation care has been entrusted to Geib Funeral Services and inurnment will follow at Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. A public celebration of Arlene’s life is being planned for a later date when it is safe for all to gather.
