Anne Messer Rolfe

Anne Messer Rolfe, 88, of Franklin, passed away on Saturday, March 12. Born in Surry County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Blume Lloyd Mason and Elva Matthews Mason. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James Benton Messer and Donald Eric Rolfe, respectively; and her sisters, Jayne Hammer and Linda Kinley. Anne taught in Macon County schools for many years. She taught at Union Elementary and later at Macon Middle School. She was a very active member of First United Methodist Church until her later years. She was a talented artist and created beautiful cross stitch pieces. She loved animals and was always surrounded by them as they gave her great joy. She is survived by her children, Rodger Messer of the home and Lynnett Messer Berdan of Hendersonville; her sister, Catherine M. James and husband Bob of Franklin; nieces and nephews, Joy C. Kinley, Gene Kinley (Bonnie), Robert James Jr. (Sarah Johnson), Abigail James (Josh Shapiro), great nephews, Eric James and James Friedling and great niece, Miriam Shapiro. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 3-4 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
