Allen “Red” Hurt, 86, of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton. Family will greet friends and family from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City.

Red was born on Jan. 22, 1936, in Iowa, the son of Howard and Hazel (Miles) Hurt. He attended Marion schools and went on to serve honorably in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Red was very proud of his service for his country. He was united in marriage to Mary Catherine “Cay” Miller on July 7, 1957, in Dubuque, Iowa. To this union four children were born. Red was a farmer and farmed with his dad for many years. He also worked in maintenance at Rockwell Collins for 35 years, until his retirement. Red was a member of St. Stephens Catholic Church in Central City, Iowa. He enjoyed gardening and loved to share produce with everyone. Red loved his Westerns and would crack walnuts and hickory nuts all winter long. He was willing to help anyone, generous to a fault. Red most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grand- and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Red is survived and lovingly remembered by his children, Pam (Mel) Campbell of Ryan, Iowa, Gina (Ricky) Etten of Center Point, Iowa, Kelly (Brett) Morrow of Central City and Patrick (Joan) Hurt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one granddog, Brewer; eight grandchildren, Chris (Stacy) Campbell, Kyla (Dave) Sattgast, Eric (Catie) Campbell, Jason (Melissa) Etten, Angie (Chris) Buckman, Nick (Kenzie) Etten, Amanda Morrow (Eric Osmundson) and Lee Morrow; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Glen (Marie) Hurt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary “Cay” Hurt; great-granddaughter, Chloe Catherine Campbell; and brother, Ed Hurt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Red’s memory may be directed to the American Legion Wapsie Post #421 in Central City.
