Alice Marjory King, 96, passed away peacefully at the Living Center West Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023.

A visitation will be held at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 1:30 until service time at 2:30 p.m., with the Certified Celebrant Dr. James Coyle officiating. Interment to follow at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Garden of Tranquility.

Alice was born on Nov. 3, 1926, on the family ranch in Mellette County, S.D., the daughter of the late N. Louis and Cjerstina (Hilmoe) Schervem. She was a 1944 graduate of Vivian High School. Alice received her teaching certificate from Black Hills Teachers College and taught in a one-room country school.

In 1947, she married Robert D. King. They moved to Cedar Rapids in 1957 to a brand new house where they remained for almost 60 years. Shortly after the move, she started working in data entry at Collins Radio (later Rockwell) and continued there until retirement. She was a voracious reader, enjoyed needlework (except knitting), and joined her husband in many U.A.W. union and Democratic Party activities.

Alice is survived by daughter, Linda and son, Allan; grandchildren, Beth (Joe), Nathan (Becky) and Justin; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Shea, Piper, Mack, Alison and Madeline; and further survived by her sister, Shirley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Orlo; daughter-in-law, Jennifer; and grandson, Patrick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the children’s charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at Living Center West who provided excellent care with great kindness during Alice’s short stay.
