Alfred Duane Stark, 87, of Boyson Heights Senior Living, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Center Point, Iowa, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a long illness. Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point. Visitation will begin one hour prior. Burial will be held at Center Point Cemetery.

Duane “Alfie” was born on Dec. 24, 1935, in La Plata, Mo., the son of Alfred and Helen (Elliott) Stark. He attended country school in Monti, Iowa, and then went on to attend school in Quasqueton, Iowa. From there, he joined the Navy where he proudly served as military police and shared many stories of his time at the Yokosuka Naval Base in Japan. Duane also served on a destroyer. On Aug. 2, 1957, he married Linda L. Daubenberger in Quasqueton. The couple moved to Center Point, where they raised their two sons, Randy and Rodney. Duane had many life experiences. He was self-employed and/or worked at many jobs throughout his lifetime.

Duane found joy in feeding the birds. Playing cards with his card club was a pleasure in his life. Watching his children and grandchildren at athletic events, then seeing his great-grandchildren grow up, brought many smiles to this beloved man. He was an avid fan of John Wayne and the Dodgers. Duane was a lifelong member and officer of the Legion, Lions and Booster Club.

He is survived by his two sons, Randy (Tami) Stark of Center Point and Rodney (Susan) Stark of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Joseph (Lindsey) Stark of Palo, Iowa, Jamie Kelly of Center Point, Samantha Stark of Cedar Rapids, Chelsea (Jared) Gienger of Palo, and Robin (Brian) Stark of Scio, Ore.; six great-grandchildren, Aiden and Liam Stark of Palo, Addelyn Stark of Cedar Rapids, Jordyn Kelly of Center Point, and Oliver and Gemma Gienger of Palo; two sisters, Janice (Jerry) Shaffer of Independence, Iowa, Rosemary (Jr.) Martinez of Frederick, Colo.; three brothers, Thomas (Marlene) Stark of Taylorsville, Ky., Kenneth (Malou) Stark of Pensacola, Fla., and Douglas (Judy) Stark of Reno, Nev.

Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; his parents; sister, Beverly, and a sister, Naomi, in infancy; and two brothers, James and Marvin.
