Abigayle Katherine Fitzgerald
- September 2, 2021
Abigayle Katherine Fitzgerald (19) was born January 5th, 2002 in Durham, North Carolina at Duke University Hospital. On August 27, 2021, she died at Mission Hospital in Asheville, passing into the arms of Jesus.
As a proud member of the West Henderson High School graduating class of 2021, Abigayle will always be fondly remembered by those she touched with her big heart, loquaciousness and quick wit. Always a ray of sunshine, her gregarious personality was often on display while performing with the national championship winning Hope Elite cheerleading team. As a Special Olympian, her positive attitude was infectious. It often shone brightest when she participated with her friends in numerous events, as her friends were who truly made the Olympics special for her.
Abby lived her life to the fullest. She loved and cared for others more than herself. She will always be remembered as an amazing example to others and will be greatly missed by many.
Abigayle is survived by her parents, Stephanie and Steve Fitzgerald; grandparents, Joanne Wyatt Ward, Don Ward (Donna) and Brenda Gray; uncles Rusty Ward (Laura), Billy Hunt (Wendy), Chad Fitzgerald, and Earl Hunt (Becky); and Aunt Jessica Hoots “Kedda,” as well as numerous great aunts, great uncles and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Elite Cheerleading/The Hope Center of Hendersonville, In Care of Paige Hannah, 552 Ridge Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792 or to Special Needs Baseball in care of Donnie Jones.
Abby’s memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, September 4, at Forest Lawn, 538 Tracy Grove Road, Hendersonville, NC.
