Wilfred “Willy” Baez, a cherished husband, beloved family man, and a passionate antique car enthusiast passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, at his Howard Beach residence due to natural causes stemming from ALS. Born on May 28, 1964, in the Bronx, NY, to Carmen Perez Baez and Wilfredo Baez, Willy was a beacon of humor and love throughout his 60 years.
Willy’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family and friends. He is survived by his devoted wife, Norma Baez, who stood by his side as a testament to their enduring love. His sister, Nirsa Baez, will cherish the memories of the strong bond they shared. His mother, Carmen, and father, Wilfredo, raised him with values that shaped the man he became. Willy’s nieces and nephews will forever hold dear their “Chilly Willy,” the jokester who filled their lives with laughter, joy, and constant support.
Willy’s ability to fix just about anything earned him the respect of his colleagues and friends. His hands were rarely still, as he was always ready to lend them to a project or a person in need.
Willy’s love for life was evident in his interests and hobbies. As a classic antique car enthusiast, he spent countless hours restoring and admiring vintage vehicles, a testament to his appreciation for craftsmanship and history. Willy was a proud dog dad to Fluffy, Shadow, and Sam – his loving nature and deep affection for his canine companions was one of the things he will be remembered by.
His passion for his Puerto Rican culture was a vibrant thread woven throughout his life. Salsa and reggaetón music were the rhythms of his soul, and he shared this love with everyone around him. Action movies were his escape, but it was his sense of humor and his talent for storytelling that made him the life of any gathering.
Willy was often referred to as “Chilly Willy” by those who knew him best, a nickname that captured his cool and calm demeanor even in the face of life’s challenges. His ability to bring warmth and lightness to any situation was one of his most endearing qualities.
Willy’s legacy is one of joy, humor, and love. He lived by the words of Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” He made everyone he knew feel cherished, valued, and endlessly amused.
As we bid farewell to our Willy, we celebrate a life lived with a full heart and open arms. His laughter will echo in our hearts, and his spirit will continue to inspire us.
