- August 8, 2025

Walter L. Record was born on September 12, 1930, to Loyd and Ruth (Cole) Record in Yakima, Washington, and passed away at his home on August 4, 2025.
His mother died when Walt was very young. His father later married Leona Clay, and she became Mom and later Grandma to his kids.
He married Minette Richards in June of 1950, and they were married for 75 years. During the first few years, he was a rancher with his father before being drafted and serving in the Korean War. He was very proud of his military service.
After the war, he entered the trucking business with his dad. Eventually, he bought Record Hauling Service and ran it for many years. The business required extremely long hours, and somehow, he managed to thrive.
Sometimes during the pea harvest in Lewiston, Idaho, he would put in 20 or more hours a day. After the pea harvest came apples, and then grapes. Once harvest was over, he would go hunting for two weeks because he needed the rest.
Walt was a great father to his three children and always did his best to attend the important events in their lives. Never being one who was able to sit around doing nothing, he would find something to do until it was time for the ball game, horse show, or whatever. But when it was time, there he was. This carried on to his grandchildren as well.
The whole family loved his sense of humor, and there was not one person in the family that wasn’t a victim of it at one time or another.
During the early years of their marriage, he and Minette lived in one room of an apple packing shed until he finished building their house, where they lived until his passing.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Egley. He is survived by his wife, of 75 years, Minette; his children, Dennis (Linda) Record, Susan (Randy) Gabbard, and Janet (Steve) Owens; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A Viewing will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025 from 4-6pm and a Funeral Service on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 10:00am, both at Shaw & Sons Funeral Home. A Reception will follow the service in the greenside room. A Graveside Service will then be held at 1p.m. at West Hills Memorial Park.
