Vera Nancy Delgatto
September 17, 1938 – May 31, 2025
Vera Delgatto passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, in Arcadia, California, surrounded by her loving family. She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved son, Michael Delgatto.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Joseph (Joe), her son Tony, daughter-in-law Ginny, her daughter Maryann Griffin, and her “adopted” daughter Cee Knudsen. She also leaves behind her grandchildren – Angela (Jimmy), Lucy (Scott), Vinny (Maryam) and Frankie; five great-grandchildren—with a sixth expected soon.
Vera is also survived by her sister Marge Devereaux; brother-in-law John Delgatto and his wife Pat; sister-in-law Marilyn Delgatto; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Vera was born to Lena and Leroy Ryser in Los Angeles. Along with her sister Marge, she spent her early years living in the Atwater District of Los Angeles before the family moved to Temple City. She attended St. Luke’s Catholic Grammar School and then San Gabriel Mission High School.
It was at San Gabriel Mission High School in 1956 that Vera met Joe. After four years of courtship, they were married and went on to share a long and loving life together.
For 60 years, Vera and Joe were devoted members of Sts. Felicitas and Perpetua Parish, where Vera sang joyfully in the choir for more than 30 years. She also worked for many years alongside her husband at Pantorium Dry Cleaners in Sierra Madre. After retiring, she continued her lifelong commitment to service by volunteering for 30 years at Arcadia Methodist Hospital.
She was an avid reader with a deep love for Hawaii. A whiz at Jeopardy!, The Price Is Right, and Wheel of Fortune, she rarely missed an episode. She found great joy in nurturing her rose garden and held her grandchildren and great-grandchildren close to her heart.
Vera will be remembered for her kindness, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. Her gentle spirit and loving heart touched all who knew her and she will be deeply missed.
