Valarie Ann Lassiter, 73, of New Haven, Connecticut, entered into eternal rest peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Yale-New Haven Hospital – St. Raphael’s Campus. Valarie was born on November 14, 1951, to the late Persia L. Boyd Lassiter and Nelson W. Lassiter, Sr. in Grace New Haven Community Hospital. After graduating from James Hillhouse High School in 1969, she had a long career at SNET. Val then worked with troubled youth at UNO House, first as a Counselor and later as an Office Manager, for eight years.
Valarie was a very passionate woman; she loved her family ferociously! She raised three fabulous children and loved her seven grandchildren and one precious great-grandson. She was an active member of Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hamden, Connecticut. Valarie loved God and did a journal. Valarie’s hobbies were picture gathering, cooking, washing clothes (which she loved!), and crocheting beautiful blankets.
Valarie was unbelievably blessed with an aptitude for collecting revenue from the State of Connecticut numbers system (she was never broke!). Now, she has won the best lottery in the universe; she sits at the feet of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
Valarie was predeceased by her daughter, Felicia Lawrence; grandson, Javon Lawrence; granddaughter, Juliana Harrell; sister, Dorothea Lassiter; brother, Nelson W. Lassiter, Jr.; grandmother, Bessie Boyd; nephews, Michael H. Lassiter, Jr. and Cemal H. Lassiter, Sr.; brother-in-law, Hal Chestnut; and sister-in-law Sandra Lassiter.
Valarie is survived by two cherished children, Kyle P. Lassiter, Sr. and Mrs. Nicole (David) Harrell; five grandchildren, Karon (Kira) Lawrence, Kyle P. Lassiter, Jr., Cortney Lassiter, Olivia Lassiter, and Jocelyn Aranjo-Harrell; one great-grandson, Jaxon Lawrence; brothers, Michael H. (Felecia) Lassiter, Sr., William (Joyce) Shelton, Ronaldo V. Lassiter, Sr., and Dwayne E. (Carmen) Lassiter; and sister, Daniele (Mark, Sr.) Haynes; son-in-law, Dwayne Lawrence; and nephew, Kevin Lassiter; lifelong friend, Leonardo Melendez; and a large, loving group of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and friends.
