Renovation of the upper fields at JohnD Winters Centennial Park in Carson City began on Oct. 13, with completion anticipated in the spring of 2026, weather depending. To safely accommodate construction activities, Heritage Way will be closed to all pedestrian and vehicle traffic, including the trailhead and playground.

The trailhead may be opened on select weekends, as circumstances allow and as determined by the contractor, Sprinturf. Eagle Valley Golf Course and the park’s tennis courts and lower fields are open. A map of the closure area is attached in the PDF below.

Through a competitive bidding process, this approximately $6.1 million project, awarded to Sprinturf, will convert the upper fields from natural grass to synthetic turf. The scope of work includes clearing and grubbing, utilities, irrigation, landscaping, shade structure and retaining wall installation, fencing, drainage improvements, and other site work associated with the field conversion.

The project is funded by General Obligation (Limited Tax) Park Bonds, Quality of Life Capital Sales Tax, and Capital Improvement Funds.
