Ulysses Haynes

Ulysses “Lit” Grant Haynes Jr. age 95 of Pikeville, Kentucky passed from this earthly life Saturday September 20, 2025 at his residence. He was born May 2, 1930 the son of the late Ulysses Grant Haynes and Eland Blankenship Haynes. “Lit” was a life- long residential and commercial contractor. “Lit” was a Christian and a member of the Cowpen Freewill Baptist Church.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter Lelesia Haynes, two brothers Tom Haynes and Robert Haynes, four sisters, Beulah Miller, Emma Maynard, Hazel Haynes and Willa Jean Haynes, one grandson Anthony “Tony” Newman.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Haynes, three daughters, Teresa W. Haynes of Johnson City, Tennessee, Kathy (Hugh) Haynes Caperton of Beckley, West Virginia and Kimberly (Tim) Haynes Newsome of Pikeville, Kentucky, eight grandchildren: Tim (Donna) Newman, Talisa Newman, Steven Newman, William Grant (Heather) Newsome, Randa (Korby) Lenker, Caitlin Newsome, Preston (Daniel) Caperton Pittard and Warren Grant Newsome, and 11 great grandchildren. “Lit” is also survived by a very special friend, Jerry Nichols.

Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Monday September 22, 2025 at the Cowpen Freewill Baptist Church.

Memorial services will be 11 AM Tuesday September 23, 2025 at the church with Estill Reed officiating.
