Thomas “Tom” Wolfe passed away on October 2, 2025, after a three-year battle with leukemia. He was 59.
Tom was born on February 22, 1966, in Washington, D.C., to David and Margaret (Lawrence) Wolfe. He grew up in Bowie, Maryland, and graduated from Bowie High School and the University of Maryland. Tom worked as an editor and indexer for the American Psychological Association until his retirement.
Tom was a big-hearted, gentle soul — a true teddy bear. He had a kind spirit, a warm laugh, and a knack for making everyone around him feel at ease.
Music was one of Tom’s greatest loves. As a teenager, he attended countless concerts and especially enjoyed metal bands and Southern rock. He was also an avid drummer, with a massive drum set in his bedroom that he played for hours — much to the “delight” of his family and neighbors!
Tom’s life found its greatest joy when he met the love of his life, Kim Munroe. They were married for 22 years, until her passing in 2024. Together, they shared countless good times with friends at their favorite pubs, cheering on their football teams — the Rams, Dolphins, and Ravens — and taking beach trips with their Ravens Roost friends.
Tom believed life was meant to be enjoyed, and he lived that way every day. Even in his final months, he reminded everyone to “go out and have some fun!”
Tom had a circle of lifelong friends who were like brothers to him. Their loyalty and love meant the world to him. He also received wonderful care and support at the end of his life from those friends and the amazing staff at the Gilchrist Hospice Center in Columbia, Maryland.
Tom is survived by his mother, Margaret Wolfe of Crofton, Maryland; his brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Sally Wolfe of Huntingtown, Maryland; and his nephew, Spencer Wolfe of Mechanicsville, Maryland.
A memorial service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held at a later date.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
