Thomas “Tom” McCarley

Thomas “Tom” McCarley

Mr. Thomas “Tom” Lovvorn McCarley passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025 at the age of 88. He was born in Woodland, Alabama on June 25, 1937 to the late, Ruth Lovvorn McCarley and Robert McCarley.

Shortly after graduating from Woodland High School, Tom was employed by Southern Bell where he worked for the next 33 years. After his retirement in 1989, he continued working as a contractor for BellSouth and Georgia Power until 2017.

Tom was a mentor, a deacon, a Georgia Tech fan, a little league football coach, a connoisseur of fine hoop cheese, and a regular contributor at the “Table of Knowledge” at Maple Street Diner. He loved a beach vacation and spent untold hours walking the beach and swimming in the waves in Gulf Shores and Daytona. His children and their friends have a lifetime’s worth of tales from Labor Day weekends in Gulf Shores with “T.L.” He would joyfully load a friend or two into his pickup and drive to the wilds of Randolph County, Alabama for the sake of a good biscuit and good fellowship and a pleasant drive over country roads.

Thomas will be deeply missed by his beloved wife and favorite travel partner, Vera McCarley; his children, Tom and Andrea McCarley, Susan and Bill Blanchard; granddaughter, Samantha McCarley; grandsons, Scott and Patrick Blanchard; great grandson, William Blanchard; brother and sister-in-law, Glenn and Thu McCarley; and sister, Jan Johnson.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 2 PM in the chapel at Almon Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home from 1 PM until the service hour.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund, 501 Northside Drive, Carrollton, GA 30117 or the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
