Thomas Joseph Murphy passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 26th. He was born in New York City on March 20,1943 to the late James and Anne Murphy, who emigrated from Ireland. Tom moved to the Eagle Valley section of Tuxedo as a child where he resided for the remainder of his life. He was a graduate of George F. Baker High School, Class of 1962. Upon graduation, Tom joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country in the Pacific as a submariner aboard the USS Tiru SS-416 during the Vietnam War. He had a life-long career as an electrician and retired as a line electrician from Ford Motor Company. Tom had a deep interest in helping people and serving his community. He began as a volunteer fireman for the Tuxedo Park Fire Department, but eventually became a founding member of the Eagle Valley Fire Company in 1972 for which he remained a volunteer for the last 53 years. Additionally, Tom served as Captain of the Tuxedo Fire Police and worked as the Animal Control Officer for Tuxedo for a few years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Tom had a passion for reading, keeping up with current events, and enthusiastically debating politics whenever possible.

Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Anne Murphy (née Jenc), his son Kevin and daughter-in-law Tina, his daughter Kerry, his grandchildren Jake, Reagan, and Scott, and his beloved dog, Maggie. He is also survived by his brother Donald and sister-in-law Catherine of Georgia, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly. Tom is predeceased by his brother Patrick and sister-in-law Barbara of Tennessee.

A celebration of life will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Chapel on July 19th at 11:00am.
