Thomas “Tom” Giles, 64, of Erie passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with health issues. He was born in Erie on April 22, 1961, to the late George and Marge (Weber) Giles. He attended St. Peter’s graduating in 1975 and later Strong Vincent High School in 1979. Tom was an avid sports fan and could recall obscure sports facts. He followed the Raiders and Knicks, but his true passion was the Mets. He managed “Sponsor Free” in the recreational softball league for many years. He also coached JV football at St. John Baptist School.
Tom had an enthusiasm for history, earning his MFA from Edinboro University specializing in Erie history and the Revolutionary War. He loved telling stories and jokes, he had a pronounced sense of humor and a deep booming laugh that was infectious, even in his worsening health.
He is survived by his wife, Aimee (Real) Giles, whom he married on July 23, 1987; sons, Mike and Steven Giles; grandchildren, Micheal and Thomas Giles, Gabrianna and Terry Stone; his sisters, Colleen Lamary, Nancy Federowicz, Sue (Dave) Shearer, Kathy (Dan) Heitzenrater and his brother, Pat Giles, along with many nieces and nephews and friends, Pete Barko, Bob Eckert and Jerry McCumber. Along with his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, John and niece, Katie Giles.
All services were held through SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 NEW CASTLE RD. BUTLER, PA 16001. WWW.SPENCERDGEIBEL.COM. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Nightingale Skilled Nursing & Rehab for their wonderful care he received. And to all who helped and supported the family during this time.
